Digital dentistry

Why we work digitally

It always begins with a conversation and an experienced clinical eye, because a great deal can be recognised and assessed without any device. Digital dentistry builds on this and is part of a holistic approach to dental care: technology comes in when it answers an open question or improves a treatment.

The intraoral scanner replaces unpleasant impressions, and X-rays are taken with little radiation. Because scanning, planning and fabrication interlock digitally, quality improves: precision increases and the treatment result becomes more predictable. With dental restorations in particular, this leads to a precision of fit that would not be achievable without digital dentistry.

How we proceed

  1. 01 Thorough examination

No device comes first: we begin with your concerns and your history, followed by a thorough examination of teeth, gums, mucous membranes and function. This remains the basis of every diagnosis.

  2. 02 X-rays with sound judgement

If a question remains open, we add a few targeted X-rays or a panoramic X-ray for an overview. We use the three-dimensional image (cone beam computed tomography, or CBCT) above all to plan implants and surgical procedures, where the amount of available bone and the course of the nerves are decisive. It is also helpful with impacted wisdom teeth and complicated root canals. In low-dose mode, its radiation is within the range of an ordinary panoramic X-ray.

  3. 03 Digital scan instead of impression

The intraoral scanner digitises your teeth in just a few minutes, without an impression tray and without gagging. The scan supports diagnosis and makes it easy to compare changes over time, for example at the gum line or on the chewing surfaces.

  4. 04 Digital planning and delivery

In guided implant surgery, we combine the CBCT and the scan on the computer and use them to plan the optimal position of the implant, keeping clear of sensitive structures such as nerves. The surgical guide then transfers this plan into the mouth. In some cases, digital planning is what makes an implant possible in the first place. Crowns, splints and aligners are made by our specialised dental laboratories directly from the scan, with a precise fit and often within a few days.

Good to know

Does the dentist always have to take an X-ray? No. Every X-ray requires a prior examination and a specific reason, the so-called justifying indication. 3D images in particular are not routine diagnostics, and that is exactly how we handle them. If you already have recent images, for example from a previous dentist, please feel free to bring them. That way nothing has to be X-rayed twice. You can find out more about our equipment on the pages about digital X-rays and 3D (CBCT) and the intraoral scanner.

Treatments in this area

  • Intraoral scanner

Digitises your teeth in minutes, no impression trays: the basis for splints, prosthetics and aligners.

  • Panoramic X-ray and 3D CBCT

A complete picture of teeth, bone and structures in 2D and 3D, with as little radiation as possible.

  • Dental photography and digital smile design

We document your case and simulate the aesthetic result before we start.

  • Digital implant planning

Position, angle and depth of the implant are planned in detail on the computer.

Your first appointment

Your first appointment begins with a conversation and a thorough examination, not with a device. We then decide together whether any images would be useful and which ones, and you see every finding directly on the screen. Without time pressure and in your own language.

More treatments

  1. Digital dentistry

Examine thoroughly, plan precisely, deliver digitally: from the first diagnosis to the finished restoration, we work digitally throughout. This makes treatments more accurate, more comfortable and more predictable.

  2. Professional dental cleaning and preventive care

Healthy teeth begin with good prevention. Professional dental cleanings as part of a personalised preventive care plan remove plaque, tartar and discolouration before problems arise.

  3. Periodontics and gum health

Bleeding gums are a warning sign. We treat gingivitis and periodontitis with modern periodontal therapies to preserve your teeth and jawbone.

  4. Conservative dentistry: fillings, inlays and onlays

Your own tooth is the best tooth there is. We take the least invasive approach to tooth decay and minor damage, using fillings in the natural colour of your tooth, and restore larger defects with precisely fitted ceramic inlays and onlays. This way, as much healthy tooth structure as possible is preserved.

  5. Root canal treatment (endodontics)

An inflamed tooth nerve does not mean the end of the tooth. Wherever possible, we keep the living nerve. Where that is not possible, a root canal treatment removes the inflammation from inside the tooth, relieves the pain and saves the tooth from extraction.

  6. Orthodontics and invisible aligners

We correct tooth position and bite with treatments tailored to each patient: from traditional braces to invisible aligners, for children, teenagers and adults.

  7. Dental crowns and partial crowns

Even a badly damaged tooth can usually be saved. A crown or partial crown restores its shape, stability and chewing function. That way you keep your own tooth.

  8. Tooth extraction and wisdom teeth

Sometimes a tooth extraction is the right treatment: when a tooth can no longer be saved or is completely in the wrong position, or when a wisdom tooth is causing problems. In that case we remove the tooth gently under local anaesthetic and, where needed, plan the right tooth replacement before the procedure. That way no permanent gap remains after the extraction.

  9. Dental implants and tooth replacement

The right answer for every gap: we replace a single missing tooth with an implant and a crown. If several teeth are missing, we close the gap with individual implants or an implant-supported bridge. And even for a jaw with no teeth left, we have fixed solutions that look good.

  10. Cosmetic dentistry

Healthy teeth can be beautiful too: we whiten them in a controlled way and correct shape and colour with veneers or tooth-coloured composite. You decide what should change, and we work as conservatively as possible.

  11. Children's dentistry

From the very first milk tooth: we support your child’s dental development with relaxed check-ups, fissure sealants and, where needed, gentle treatment of tooth decay.

  12. Teeth grinding and TMJ disorders

Teeth grinding, jaw pain and clicking in the jaw joint rarely have a single cause. We examine the function of the joint and the muscles and check the teeth for signs of grinding and clenching. A custom-fitted occlusal splint is often used, combined where needed with physiotherapy and other specialities.

  13. Snoring and sleep apnoea treatment

In many cases, snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea can be treated at the dental practice: with a custom-fitted splint that you wear at night.

  14. Nervous patients

Time, clear arrangements and an agreed stop signal: gentle dentistry for everyone who finds visiting the dentist difficult.
